Why CBD in Skincare?

CBD is high in antioxidants, alongside Vitamin A, C, E, or Omega 3 fatty acids, which are all present in hemp, making it a good source for essential anti-aging compounds. In order to achieve younger looking skin we have to protect from free radicals, UV rays, smoke and environmental pollutants.

Skin nutrition

Often overlooked, when it comes to healthy skin and hair a crucial factor is simple nutrition. As with any other part of the body, skin and hair need the right vitamins and minerals for peak function. Besides CBD, hemp also includes other essential nutrients including vitamins, minerals, proteins and fatty acids.

Vitamin C and E help protect hair from broken or split ends and act to protect from UV damage. They also keep free radicals from damaging collagen and elastin which give skin its tight and bouncy appearance.

Vitamin A aids development of healthy looking skin as they play a direct role in skin repair. A lack of these vitamins result in dry, flaky skin. Vitamin A is also widely accepted for its role in skin cell growth, inhibiting oil production and promoting skin cell differentiation.

CBD Studies

The Role of Cannabinoids in Dermatology

This 2017 study demonstrated CBD’s positive effects on skin conditions, particularly ones that leave you itchy and dry such as psoriasis and eczema.

Cannabidiol Exerts Sebostatic and Antiinflammatory Effects on Human Sebocytes

Published in 2014, this study found that CBD can regulate the oil production in our sebaceous glands (otherwise known as the glands that can make your face and hair oily). This effect, along with CBD’s natural anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties, can make CBD oil an effective treatment for those of us who struggle with breakouts.

The Therapeutic Potential of Cannabinoids in Dermatology

Cannabinoids have demonstrated utility in the management of cancer, obesity, and neurologic disease. More recently, their immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory properties have been identified for the treatment of several dermatologic conditions.

Cannabidiol and (−)Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol are Neuroprotective Antioxidants

This 1998 study was the first to show the antioxidant properties of CBD, going on to prove that CBD is a more powerful source of antioxidants than Vitamins C and E.

Efficacy of Dietary Hempseed Oil in Patients with Atopic Dermatitis.

Hempseed oil is a rich and balanced source of omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Anecdotal evidence indicated that dietary hempseed oil might be useful in treating symptoms of atopic dermatitis.
